A new brewery in Kronach Until the 17th century, brewing of beer lay firmly in the hands of Kronach's women. Unlike today, a respectable man based his choice of a wife on two main aspects: the brewing skills of the wife-to-be and the dowry in the form of a convenient brew kettle. By the brewing right of the Bishop of Bamberg, the "Obere Stadt" was even granted monopoly right, which led to feuds, downright beer wars. Especially the "opstreperous Steinwiesener" (people of the nearby municipality Steinwiesen) were not at all willing to accept the Kronachers' privilege. The Brewery "Antla" ties in with the nearly 1000 year old brewing tradition at the historic district "Obere Stadt", with tasty, "honest" beers, with freshness and craftsmanship. And, of course, Steinwiesener can have a beer at the "Antla", too
